Remove problem areas using Laser Lipo

Even if you're in the best shape of your life, you may still have one or more of those problem areas where fat deposits accumulate; the persistent areas of fat that don't seem to respond to diet or exercise, and which tend to mar your overall appearance. Those bulging areas around the thighs, the tummy, butt and back of the arms — in the past some have resorted to traditional liposuction that, while effective, has numerous drawbacks. Today, there's a better solution called Laser Liposuction. With Laser Lipo you can effectively smooth out the body's contours without the downsides of traditional liposuction.

How does Laser Lipo work?

Now you can melt away the pounds. Lots of products and procedures try to make that claim, but that's exactly how Laser Lipo works. By gently heating specific areas of fat, the fat is liquefied and then easily suctioned out of the body. Using Laser Lipo you can target these problem areas and eliminate fat in as little as one procedure.

Laser Lipo is different than traditional liposuction

Laser Lipo uses laser technology to apply heat to areas of fat. The doctor uses a small tube approximately the width of a spaghetti noodle. An incision is made so small that it doesn't even require stitches. Attached to the tube is a tiny laser fiber that delivers energy directly to fat cells. The application of heat turns solid fat to fluid, which is then gently drained away.

The advantages of Laser Lipo over traditional liposuction are numerous.

  • Smoother Contours, No Baggy Skin: One of the drawbacks of traditional liposuction is the loose, baggy skin that remains after the fat has been removed. This loose skin may require cosmetic surgery at a later date. This doesn't happen with Laser Lipo for two reasons. One, the natural effects of the Laser Lipo process causes loose skin to tighten or contract. Also, Laser Lipo encourages the growth of collagen, a natural substance that fills out the skins contours for a smooth and more youthful appearance.
  • Less Bruising / No Stitches: Laser Lipo is less intrusive, which means less bruising, less bleeding, and an incision so small it requires no stitches.
  • Shorter Recovery / Little Downtime: While some people actually go back to work the same day after Laser Lipo, recovery time is usually about two days. Compare that with traditional liposuction, which takes up to 2 weeks for recovery.
  • Permanent Solution: Fat accumulates around the body's fat cells. Laser Lipo not only removes unwanted fat but also the body's fat cells. This means that once you've had a Laser Lipo treatment, fat deposits will not usually reoccur in that particular area.
  • No General Anesthesia: Because of the nature and simplicity of Laser Lipo, general anesthesia isn't necessary. The patient is administered a local anesthetic and is awake during the procedure.
  • No Hospital Stays: Laser Lipo is a relatively simple procedure that is performed in the doctor's office and takes about 1-4 hours.
  • More Affordable: While the results are comparable to traditional liposuction, the Laser Lipo procedure costs on average 30% less than liposuction.

Who is a good candidate for Laser Lipo?

  • Someone in good health with realistic expectations of results
  • Someone who has areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise
  • Someone who doesn't have a lot of time to spend in recovery

What can I expect during the procedure?

A very small incision is made in the skin. The procedure starts with an infusion of saline solution containing a local anesthetic into the targeted fat area. A small cannula is inserted into the local area of fat. The diameter of this tube is no wider than the head of a pin. Attached to the cannula is a small laser fiber. The laser delivers heat to the fat cells. This turns the fat into fluid, which is then drained away.

The patient is awake during the procedure and can communicate with the doctor. Laser Lipo takes about 45 minutes to an hour for each area treated. For most patients one treatment is all that's required.

What about after the procedure?

The local anesthesia will help to keep the area numb for about 18 to 24 hours, minimizing post-operative pain. There can be a small amount of bruising which will disappear. Most people return to regular activity within two to three days. Special compression garments are recommended and are worn for two weeks after the Laser Lipo procedure, whereas traditional liposuction patients require compression garments for up to six weeks. The swelling should subside within a week and you'll be able to appreciate the results of the Laser Lipo. Improvement will continue over the course of several months.

What is the long-term outcome for most people?

The most dramatic results can be seen immediately following the Laser Lipo procedure. Within three months, the skin will return to normal and the area will continue to improve up to a year. The more fat that's removed the longer it will take to achieve maximum results.

The best part is that Laser Lipo is permanent. The Laser Lipo procedure permanently removes the fat cells. Should you gain weight, most fat will be deposited into areas where the procedure was not performed.

Are There Any Possible Complications?

Laser Lipo was approved by the FDA in 2006 and the safety record of Laser Lipo is well documented. The complication rate of Laser Lipo has shown to be less than 1% as compared to 10% with traditional liposuction. While no procedure is risk free, procedures performed using local anesthesia like Laser Lipo generally carry less risk than procedures that require general anesthesia like traditional liposuction.

How soon can I see results?

You'll begin to see results immediately as the swelling subsides.

Does Laser Lipo treat cellulite?

Laser Lipo was not designed to improve cellulite, but as your body shape improves and skin tightens you may notice an improvement of cellulite.

Does laser assisted liposuction produce lasting results?

Yes! Adults usually do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells expand. The Laser Lipo procedure permanently removes the fat cells. Should you gain weight, most fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.

How soon can I return to exercise or sports activities?

It is advisable to avoid strenuous sports for 10 days, or intense massage for 4-5 weeks.

What if I've already had traditional liposuction?

There's no particular reason why you can't have Laser Lipo, even if you've experienced traditional liposuction. Laser Lipo is a more refined procedure than liposuction and can further improve the shape and contours of your body even with previous liposuction treatments.
